Hailing from the beautiful island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, Jeremy Vanterpool is a gifted saxophonist whose soulful tone and electrifying performances have captivated audiences across the globe. Known as The Sultan of Sultry, Jeremy blends rich Caribbean heritage with the timeless allure of jazz, gospel, calypso, and contemporary soul.
From a young age, music was part of Jeremy’s DNA. Growing up in a family that cherished the creative arts, he began singing with his four siblings in church, performing with the Youth Choir and the Acappella Fellas, a group he still performs with today. These early experiences shaped his musical identity and instilled in him a deep appreciation for diverse genres, from traditional Negro spirituals and fungi to smooth jazz and R&B.
A proud alumnus of the Elmore Stoutt High School music program, Jeremy honed his craft under the mentorship of respected educators including Arthur Selwood, J. Herbeck, Andre Braithwaite, Kamau Georges, and Mrs. Lelia Burke. His dedication and skill were recognized through his successful completion of the Royal Schools of Music examinations in both Alto Saxophone and Music Theory, earning Merits and Distinctions.
Jeremy’s musical journey expanded internationally while studying at the University of Georgia, where he met mentor Steve Dancz, celebrated jazz pianist and composer. Dancz connected him with Dave D’Angelo of the renowned Section 8 Jazz Combo, who further nurtured his artistry. During this time, Jeremy also shared the stage with rising star Jeff Sparks, whose advice to always stay connected with the audience became a cornerstone of Jeremy’s performance philosophy.
Over the years, Jeremy has performed alongside an impressive roster of legends including John Legend, Boyz II Men, Joss Stone, Percy Sledge, The Mighty Sparrow, and David Rudder. His saxophone influences range from Grover Washington Jr., Najee, Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, and Charlie Parker, to Caribbean greats Arturo Tappin, Dean Fraser, and Mark Bunney.
His sound has travelled far beyond the Virgin Islands, gracing stages across the Caribbean, the United States, Argentina, Switzerland, and Kenya. More recently in 2025, he toured Dominica, The Nature Island, highlighted by a thrilling center stage performance at the annual Dominica Jazz & Creole Festival.
To date, Jeremy has released two mixtapes: "J’Volution Vol. 1" and "J’Volution Vol. 2", which offer a fresh spin on modern and contemporary favourites. He is also the visionary behind the Sultry Sounds Concert Series, a staple on the BVI music calendar as well as a lead performer in the beloved “Sax on the Beach” series.
As Jeremy puts it:
"Humility, hard work, and recognizing that my gifts are God-given are essential to my growth as a person and as a musician. My goal is to continue rising, refining my craft, and reaching new heights of musical excellence."
With his saxophone as his voice and passion as his guide, Jeremy Vanterpool is a vibrant force in contemporary music. For him, the sky is not the limit, it's only the beginning.
